Bihar's Mahagathbandhan is in jeopardy as speculations deepen about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar switching alliances and joining hands with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA. The buzz which on one hand has pushed Congress and RJD to bite their nails on the other has left no effect on Trinamool Congress' (TMC) Mamata Banerjee who has expressed that Kumar's exit will not affect the INDIA alliance.
"I think Nitish Kumar has lost his credibility in the eyes of the people of Bihar. If he quits, it will be easier for Tejashwi Yadav to operate smoothly in Bihar," the West Bengal Chief Minister said.
Recently, while announcing that her party Trinamool Congress will go solo in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, Banerjee had said that the regional parties will remain united and all future decisions will be taken only after the results for the Lok Sabha polls are declared.
On Friday, Banerjee also issued a strong note of caution to the Union government over the non-release of the Central funds to the West Bengal government under various Centrally-sponsored schemes.
"Unless the Central funds are released within the next seven days, there will be further movements on this matter," Banerjee said.
According to the Chief Minister, the Central funds have not been released even after the state government gave satisfactory replies to all the queries posed by the Union government. She also said that the nature of the future movements will be finalised in due course.
Meanwhile, TMC and Congress have been at loggerheads since the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal.
State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said not allowing party leader Rahul Gandhi's meeting on February 1 at a stadium in Baharampur in Murshidabad district, is a "conspiracy" by the state government."
"We sought the permission of the administration for conducting the meeting at Baharampur Stadium well in advance. However, after remaining silent for so long, the administration denied the permission at the last moment. This clearly hints towards a political conspiracy," he said.
