At the inauguration of India AI Impact Summit in Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on Thursday, a funny moment caught everyone's attention during the group photo. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei were standing next to each other when those on stage decided to hold and raise hands.

Instead of linking hands, the two paused for a second, looking slightly unsure about what to do next. They quickly laughed it off and went with a raised-fist gesture instead. The moment did not go unnoticed, and clips of it soon started circulating on the internet, with many people finding it amusing given the rivalry between their companies.

The high-profile lineup had PM Modi standing at the centre. Those present on stage included Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang, Meta's Chief AI
Officer, among other leaders.

"When AGI? The day Dario and Sam hold hands," Siddharth Bhatia, co-founder of Puch AI wrote on X along with the video.

Another X user wrote, "Disappointed with Dario's behaviour. Sam looks so uncomfortable though."

The India AI Impact Summit, 2026, is being held from February 16 to 20. The summit marks the first time a Global South nation is organising an international gathering of this scale on AI. According to the government, this summit is based on three key principles: People, Planet and Progress.

Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan has announced that the AI Impact Summit will be closed to the public on Thursday. Only those with invitations will be allowed to attend. Instead, the government has decided to continue the AI Summit on February 21.
