At the AI Impact Summit, PM Modi announced the MANAV Vision for AI, which essentially lays down guidelines which encompass the soul of moral and ethical systems and also advocates for accountable governance and national sovereignty. While announcing the vision, PM Modi said, "We have to open the skies for AI but also make sure we remain in control of it."
What Does The 'MANAV' Vision Stand For?
As PM Modi laid down the building blocks for AI and innovation in India, while opening the way for AI but also maintaining credibility and control over it, as he announces the MANAV Vision, the Prime Minister said MANAV means 'humans' but it also encompasses:
M: Moral and Ethical System
A: Accountable Governance
N: National Sovereignty (right to data)
A: Accessible and inclusive
V: Valid and legitimate
At the summit the Prime Minister highlighted how AI is one of the biggest steps in humankind, comparable to wireless telecommunication, and expressed, "When signals were first transmitted wirelessly, no one imagined that the entire world would one day be connected in real time." He further added, "Artificial intelligence is such a transformation of human history. What we are seeing today, what we are predicting, is just the beginning of its impact."
