In a surprising statement, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the US State Department of orchestrating a ‘deep state’ campaign targeting India. This marks the first time the BJP has openly pointed fingers at the US government agency for allegedly undermining India's interests. 

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that elements within the US deep state, in collaboration with journalists and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, are attempting to hinder India's progress through baseless allegations and malicious reports. He further suggested that this effort is linked to the US State Department.

The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi’s Congress party of leveraging Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) articles targeting the Adani Group to undermine Prime Minister Modi. The Adani Group, led by Gautam Adani, faces allegations of a USD 265 billion bribery scheme, which Adani has denied as ‘baseless’.  OCCRP investigations also raised claims of state-sponsored Pegasus spyware use in India, accusations consistently denied by the Modi government.

BJP Links Rahul Gandhi To Soros-Funded Efforts Against India

“The Deep State is working with a clear aim to destabilise India by targeting Prime Minister Modi,” the BJP stated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Party spokesperson Sambit Patra also claimed that “half of OCCRP’s funding is directly provided by the US State Department,” alleging that the organisation operates as a media instrument to further these objectives

Sambit Patra alleged a triangular nexus involving George Soros, US agencies, and OCCRP, with Rahul Gandhi representing the third angle. Citing a December 2 report by French newspaper Mediapart, Patra highlighted that 70 per cent of OCCRP’s funding reportedly comes from Soros' Open Society Foundation.

The BJP further accused the Congress party of relying on foreign narratives to attack it, highlighting that issues like Pegasus, Adani, caste census, democracy, hunger index, and press and religious freedom originate from international sources over the past four years.
