State Bureau, Lucknow: Following the Supreme Court's order, the Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the theft of offerings at the Rami Temple in Ayodhya. The government has not released the names, but as per Jagran sources Lucknow IG Kiran S has been appointed as the SIT's chief inspector, while Ayodhya Range DIG Somen Burma and Ayodhya SSP Dr Gaurav Grover are its members.

Kiran, a 2008-batch IPS officer, is a member of the three-member SIT formed by the government on June 13 under the chairmanship of Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant. Kiran has served in Interpol and the CBI.

During the hearing on July 20, the Supreme Court ordered the government to form an SIT of IPS officers to investigate the case, as it was a criminal matter. Following this, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed Home Department officials to form a new SIT and study and comply with the Supreme Court's order.

Status Report In Supreme Court On July 27

As a result, the Home Department has formed a new SIT, but the names were not confirmed by Home Department officials until late last night. According to sources, the government will submit a status report on the case to the Supreme Court on July 27, along with information regarding the formation of the new SIT. The names of the SIT members will only be officially released after the names are disclosed to the court.

To investigate the donation theft case, the SIT formed by the government under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant had first started the investigation in Ayodhya from June 15. The SIT submitted its preliminary investigation report to the Home Department on June 22 and had requested more time from the government to prepare its final investigation report due to the wide scope of the investigation. The government has given time to the SIT until July 30 to submit its final investigation report.
