Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders, including Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, on Friday reached Parliament Street Police Station to register a complaint against Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, whose video has gone viral on the internet, claiming that he attacked student protester Nishu Azad's father, Sanjay Kumar, during the students' protest at Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leak.
CJP leaders were joined by Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) Chief and Lok Sabha MP Chandra Shekhar Azad, who accused the Delhi Police of failing to take action against Swatantra Bhardwaj, despite repeated complaints to register an attempt to murder case against him.
Following the protests, the Delhi police has assured the CJP delegation that Swatantra Bhardwaj will be arrested within 72 hours. The police have also added charges under SC/ST Act in the FIR filed against Swatantra Bhardwaj.
In the now-viral video, Bhardwaj, who describes himself as "kattar Hindu" (hardline Hindu), was seen admitting that he "cracked the skull" of Nishu Azad's father during the protest.
"Do you know which section this crime attracts? Section 307. He needed 60 stitches. The man was being taken away in an ambulance in serious condition. His daughter was standing outside the police station and saying that she would die by suicide if her father didn't get justice. But I was not even jailed. The world should know this. I was out and about through the night," Bhardwaj is heard saying in the video.
In the one-hour interview, which is available on YouTube, Bharadwaj also claimed to have political connections. "I have the blessings of Hanuman upon me. And secondly, Kapil Mishra is my elder brother. They say Kapil Mishra called and I was released. Chirag Paswan is my elder brother. How many leaders do you know? Do you know Modi ji? Modi ji is also my elder brother. I have everyone's support," he says.
When the host asked where he got the baton from, the influencer stated that it belongs to the Delhi police, and further said, "Can you see my shoe? This shoe is Delhi police's. I don't fill out any form, but automatically I roam around like Delhi police. My shoe is Delhi police's, baton, etc everything is Delhi police's."
Here are the latest updates on CJP Protest:
- Nishu Azad, whose father was attacked, said that the police have assured her that Swatantra Bhardwaj will be arrested within 72 hours. "Police officers have assured us that Swatantra will be arrested within 72 hours. They have promised to take action, and we hope there will be no further delay. For days, his supporters have been abusing me, sending rape threats. I have filed an FIR against them as well. This incident affected me deeply. I stopped going to school for weeks and felt judged by everyone. I hope the police will now act and ensure that I do not have to suffer any further," she said.
- The Delhi Police has added the SC/ST Act in the FIR filed against Swatantra Bhardwaj and has assured the protesters that he will be arrested within 72 hours. However, the protesters are demanding that Section 307 (attempt to murder) should also be added to the FIR against Swatantra Bhardwaj.
- Independent MP Pappu Yadav has also joined the CJP leaders outside the Parliament Street Police Station, demanding strict action against Swatantra Bhardwaj. "Will atrocities be inflicted on our daughters and Dalits? This government is against women, minorities, and Dalits," Yadav said.
- CJP's Saurav Das alleged that there was also a caste angle to the incident and said, "We also demanded that the SC/ST Act be invoked because they belong to a Dalit family." According to Das, when the protesters sought further action, police officials asked them to approach the court and obtain an order.
- CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka alleged that the police inaction was due to the influence of BJP workers and Delhi minister Kapil Mishra. "We demand that Delhi Police immediately arrest those who have identified themselves as being involved, register an attempt-to-murder case against them, and invoke all applicable serious charges," Ranka said.
- Meanwhile, news agency ANI reached out to Swatantra Bharadwaj on Friday, and he denied attacking Sanjay Kumar, calling the attack an act of "self-defence". He even called the podcast clip going viral a "fake" video, and said that he is cooperating with the police in the investigation.
- Chandra Shekhar Aazad, President, Aazad Samaj Party - Kanshi Ram, also arrives at Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi to support CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who are seeking justice for their leader Nishu Azad and her father Sanjay.

What Did Rahul Gandhi Say?
Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has extended support to Nishu Azad and her father and accused the Delhi Police of failing to take action against those who allegedly attacked her father. Azad had appealed to Gandhi for help, claiming that her father suffered a head injury after being attacked and that the accused continued to remain free despite the alleged assault.
Responding to her appeal on X, Gandhi wrote, "Nishu, there is no need to panic. I am with you." Rahul Gandhi also questioned PM Modi and Amit Shah over the alleged police inaction. He asked why the accused was allegedly being protected by people associated with the BJP and called for action against those responsible.
Delhi Police Denies Claims Of Serious Injury
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Thursday denied claims that Nishu's father Sanjay Kumar suffered a fractured or "cracked" skull and said the claim was "misinformation" and "completely baseless".
Sharing a post on X, DCP New Delhi said the incident took place on June 23 during the CJP protest. According to police, Kumar, 38, a resident of Ghaziabad, sustained a head injury from a kada, or metal bangle, worn by one of the men during a fight.
Police claimed Kumar was medically examined at RML Hospital and that his injuries were classified as "simple in nature". "The injuries were made by kada and not by any weapon. The misinformation regarding a crack in the skull is not supported by facts/MLC and is completely baseless," the DCP said.
According to the police, a case under relevant provisions of the BNS was registered at Parliament Street police station on Kumar's statement. The two men named during the investigation, Suraj Kumar, 24, and Swatantra Bhardwaj, 21, were detained at the spot and later served notices under the law and interrogated, police said, adding that a chargesheet would also be filed before the competent court.
