Amid a surge in the cases of brain drain, a London-based Indian-origin techie has pointed out the difference between the work culture and pay structure of the tech industry in Bengaluru and London. The techie pointed out that while the tech industry in London pays well, it is not similar to India, where the entry level in tech pays ten or twenty times more in comparison to other sectors of profession.
He also emphasised that money-minded people in London usually prefer finance as a career, and people opting for tech are more passion-driven. Arnav Gupta, author of the post, stated that he moved from Bengaluru to London six months ago on a Global Talent Visa. He penned down his experience in a long post on X (formerly Twitter) in which he pointed out that people working in the tech industry in London are more concerned about the quality.
"The biggest 'vibe shift' for me was to see the average level of passion for the 'work' (not for the job, or the product, but just the work itself - and I am sorry if you don't get the difference) is just off the charts, in comparison to what I have seen back in India," Gupta stated.
The techie also pointed out that the engineers in London are more concerned about how the work is done, rather than whether it is done or not. "Because in general, a lot more people love their craft, they also argue a lot more about the process, the quality, the architecture - they give a s**t about 'how' it is done, beyond just getting it done in time," he stated.
Several of the users reacted to the post, which got more than 1500 likes in a single day. While many of the netizens agreed with the author, others disagreed by pointing out that the requirements are completely different in both of the cities, adding that it was not fair to compare the work quality or even the pay structure.
