Telangana: A 24-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district for allegedly injecting his HIV-positive blood into a woman after her family called off their marriage plans upon discovering his HIV status.
The incident took place on March 11 in Ghatkesar town, when the accused reportedly visited the 24-year-old woman's home with a syringe containing his blood and forcibly injected it into her, as confirmed by Pocharam IT Corridor police inspector Bedada Raju.
The woman’s father filed a police complaint after the attack. Police reports revealed that the woman’s family had initially agreed to marry her off to the accused, who was also a close relative. However, when the family learned that the accused's parents were HIV-positive, the woman’s father grew concerned that the man might be infected as well.
Six months ago, the woman's father had the accused undergo an HIV test at a laboratory in Uppal. The test results confirmed that he was HIV-positive, leading the family to cancel the marriage plans, as reported by HT.
On March 11, while the woman was alone at home, the accused entered the house and forcibly injected her with his HIV-positive blood before fleeing the scene. The woman’s family quickly rushed her to a private hospital in Uppal, where she informed them about the attack, stating that the accused had injected her in an effort to force her into marrying him.
Two days later, the family lodged a formal complaint with Pocharam IT Corridor police. Following the complaint, police launched a manhunt and apprehended the accused on Saturday.
The accused has been charged under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was presented before a local court and remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
The victim was transferred to Gandhi Hospital for further medical treatment and evaluation. The investigation is still ongoing.
