TMC Crisis: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing a massive internal rift within a few weeks of its humiliating defeat in the West Bengal Assembly election. The party leaders, once considered loyalists of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, have now openly criticised the party leadership. Trinamool Congress' Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, in an interview with NDTV, has predicted that the party will be finished shortly. He asserted that the party has lost its credibility at both the state and central levels over the years.

Roy highlighted that the RG Kar rape case was handled poorly, adding that the police were used to shield the culprits. He further stated that the opposition parties will not join hands with the TMC in the upcoming elections. "The Trinamool Congress will be finished in a few days. Even in national politics, the party has lost its reliability. No party will join hands with Trinamool now," Roy said.

"The way the RG Kar incident was handled-it was wrong. There was clear attempt to shield the culprits. The police were used for that," he added. The Rajya Sabha MP also stated that Mamata Banerjee was not able to control the corruption, leading to a massive anti-incumbency. Roy also pointed out that Banerjee's alleged remarks against the Hindu community also damaged the party's reputation.

The party leaders have also spoken against the role of I-PAC, a political consultancy firm, alleging that it made Banerjee inaccessible. Earlier in her resignation letter, Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh also highlighted the issue. "If a democratic system within a party has been overshadowed by an undemocratic, murky influence, then I don't think it is good for the ideals and the heritage of a party," she wrote.

The Mamata Banerjee-led party has set up a five-member committee to take action against those speaking against the party in the public.
