Tripura Student Death: Amid outrage due to a Tripura student's murder in Dehradun, the officials on Tuesday stated that the incident happened in the heat of the moment, adding that the attackers had no intention of killing him. While addressing the reporters, Senior Superintendent of Police of Dehradun Ajai Singh stated that a group of students attacked Angel Chakma, the victim, in a state of confusion. Apart from this, he also refuted the reports claiming that the victim was racially abused by the assaulters. He clarified that the early investigation has not found any evidence of racial discrimination. SSP Singh further stated that the statements of the local residents have been recorded for further details.
While addressing the press conference, Singh stated that the group of students attacked Chakma impulsively, adding that his death was "tragic". "It happened in the heat of the moment, in a state of confusion. The group of students, six in number, became very angry and attacked (him) impulsively. There was no intention to kill. The way the death occurred is very tragic," Singh told the reporters.

He further stated that the victim and his brother got involved in a verbal argument with a group of six students who had gathered for a birthday party. The assaulters attacked him impulsively after the verbal abuse led to the physical fight, leading to the serious injuries.
"Basically, this incident happened on December 9th, between 6 and 7 pm. There are six accused, and five have been arrested. They had gathered for a birthday party, and the victim and his brother also happened to be there. After our interrogation and witness accounts, we found that the group of six people were joking around and taunting each other," the cop asserted.
He also clarified the police have not found any evidence of racial abuse, adding that a detailed probe has already been launched in the matter.
