Jagran Correspondent, Ayodhya: The wait for the monsoon in eastern Uttar Pradesh will soon be over. According to meteorologists, signs of shifting weather are likely to become visible within the next two to three days with the arrival of pre-monsoon rains. The southwest monsoon is expected to hit the region by July 2 or 3.
Delayed Monsoon Gains Momentum
The monsoon, which hit Kerala four days late on June 4, was stalled at the West Bengal-Bihar border due to the El Niño effect. While the monsoon arrives in eastern Uttar Pradesh between June 20 and 22, El Niño has caused a significant delay this year.
However, the weather office has confirmed that this system is now reactivating and steadily moving forward to bring much-needed relief.
Eastern UP Braces For Below-Normal Rainfall
Eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to see a weaker monsoon this year, with total rainfall expected to be 10 per cent below normal. While the region typically receives 879 mm of rain between June and September, meteorologists expect only about 800 mm this season.
This deficit is already visible: June has recorded only 55 mm of rain so far, a sharp drop from the usual monthly average of 132 mm.

High Humidity Grips Region; Monsoon Expected By July 2
Residents of eastern Uttar Pradesh faced severe discomfort on Saturday as a bright, sunny day accompanied by northeasterly winds created highly humid conditions. Humidity levels peaked at 60 per cent and dropped to a minimum of 30 per cent.
The maximum temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius, 5.5 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 28 degrees. However, relief is around the corner.
According to Professor Sitaram Mishra, Head of the Meteorology Department at Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, the monsoon is advancing and could arrive as early as July 2 if conditions remain favourable.
