Weather Today: The winter chill has eased slightly in North India, but the cold is set to intensify again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of major weather changes due to the impact of an intense western disturbance. On Friday, heavy rain, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and strong winds with speeds of 40-65 km/h are expected in nine states.
Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand Weather
Heavy rain/snowfall in the Kashmir Valley is likely on January 23. An orange alert has been issued for the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds (50-60 km/h) are expected.
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan And UP Weather
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds (40-65 km/h) is expected on January 23. Heavy rain is possible in Punjab on January 23.
Cold Wave To Prevail In UP Districts
Cold wave conditions prevailed in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Mathura districts on Friday morning. Severe cold and foggy conditions prevailed in Haryana (Gurugram, Sonipat) and Punjab (Amritsar, Ludhiana). Temperatures could drop by 1-2 degrees.
-Scattered rain and fog may continue over northwest India on January 24-25 as well.
-Thunderstorm alert in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala on January 25-26 in South India.
-Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect North India from January 26, increasing weather instability.
Delhi Weather
The minimum temperature across Delhi-NCR is expected to rise on Friday. Winds will blow from the east, bringing warmer and more humid conditions. Dense cloud cover is likely to prevail throughout the day.
Light rain lashed parts of Delhi early Friday morning. Isolated spells of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms are possible during the morning and afternoon hours. No rainfall is forecast for Saturday, however, cloudy conditions will persist. The next spell of rain is expected only after Republic Day.
