Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday stated that the weather conditions throughout the country are likely to significantly change in the upcoming days. In its advisory, the weather department asserted that the southwest monsoon is soon likely to arrive in Kerala. The department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds across 17 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

As per the weather department, the monsoon typically arrives in Kerala around June 1; however, it has been slightly delayed this time. It stated that the conditions are now favourable for the arrival of the monsoon in Kerala in the next two to three days. The IMD further predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Northeast and South Peninsular India.

"Conditions are favorable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon, which is likely to reach parts of the Southwest and Southeast Arabian Sea, the Lakshadweep Islands, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu over the next two to three days," the IMD stated. Along with rain, these states are also likely to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds.

As per the advisory, light to moderate rain is likely in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab between June 1 and 5. The continuous rainfall is likely to provide relief from the scorching heat by reducing the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius. However, it might also lead to waterlogging in the lower regions, causing inconveniences to the residents.

The weather department stated that along with the northern states, the southern states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu are also likely to receive rainfall. The residents of these states are advised to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid inconveniences.
