Weather Update: Severe winter conditions continued to batter North India on January 14, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue widespread alerts for severe cold waves, "very dense" fog, and ground frost across the region. Dense to very dense fog has disrupted daily life and crippled visibility across several regions, including across Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh.

While North India remained under the grip of a severe cold wave, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning was reported across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe on January 13.

Dense Fog And Severe Cold Wave Alert Issued For Delhi, UP And Bihar

- The IMD has forecast "dense to very dense" fog during the early morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh until January 15, with isolated pockets likely to witness similar conditions till January 20.

- Uttar Pradesh is set to face a prolonged spell, with dense conditions lasting until January 19 in the West and intensifying in the East between January 17 and 20.

- Additionally, dense fog is likely at isolated places of Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Odisha till January 18, with similar foggy conditions likely over West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya between January 15 and 18.

- In its latest bulletin, the weather department has warned of intensifying severe cold wave conditions across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh till January 15, before slightly easing to isolated cold waves by January 16.

- Cold wave conditions are also likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh until January 14, with similar conditions persisting in Jharkhand and Odisha until January 16.

- "Cold day" conditions are likely to persist in Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh till January 14.

Light Rainfall And Snowfall In Jammu-Kashmir

- A fresh disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from the night of January 15.

- According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this weather system will trigger light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from January 16 to 19.

- Under the influence of a western disturbance, isolated rainfall is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and western Uttar Pradesh on January 18 and 19.
