The Pollution Control Board has issued guidelines for setting off firecrackers across Jharkhand in view of Diwali. According to these, firecrackers can only be burst on the night of Diwali between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm.
Additionally, only the sale and use of firecrackers with a noise level below 125 decibels has been permitted.
However, the rules continue to be ignored in the markets of Palamu. Here, firecrackers producing noise up to 140 decibels are being sold openly. They are neither being inspected, nor has their sale been banned.
The department has clarified that action will be taken against those selling or bursting firecrackers that exceed the standard noise limit.
High-Decibel Firecrackers Being Sold In The Market
Hydro Bomb: This firecracker, which produces more than 140 decibels of noise, is used in large events and for the burning of Ravana effigies. It causes both air and noise pollution.
Flash Bomb: Costing approximately Rs 2,500, this firecracker explodes in the sky, creating a bright light and a loud noise. Its noise level is also above 125 decibels.
Light Of Thunder: Priced at Rs 4,000, this firecracker explodes with a flash and bang similar to lightning. The smoke it spreads over a large area increases air pollution.
Celebration Time: This firecracker, priced at Rs 1,800, produces noise up to 140 decibels. Its impact is multiplied when set off continuously.

The Pollution Department has appealed to the public to adhere to the prescribed times and regulations. High-decibel firecrackers are not only harmful to the ears but also have a serious impact on air quality.
