Urban local body areas of Palamu district, Jharkhand, will soon have better access to primary healthcare, with the Central government approving the establishment of four new Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The move is expected to significantly strengthen health infrastructure and reduce the burden on district hospitals.

According to the Health Department, preparations have been expedited at all proposed locations, and services are expected to begin soon.

Two new centres will be set up under the Medininagar Municipal Corporation area, one in Shahpur, where the old Panchayat Bhavan is being renovated into a modern health facility, and another in Pokhraha, where the final selection of a suitable building is underway.

A third centre in Mohammadabad (Hussainabad Nagar Panchayat) is being developed in an old government building currently under renovation. The fourth centre will come up in Hariharganj Nagar Panchayat, where the old hospital building has been selected and is undergoing repair work.

Once operational, these four centres will provide thousands of urban residents with doorstep access to essential health services.

Six Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are already functional in Palamu:

* Ranchi Road, Medininagar Municipal Corporation

* Panchayat Bhavan, Redma

* Near Belwatika Pumpukal

* Old block office premises, Vishrampur Municipal Council

* Krishna Nagar (Ward 1), Hussainabad Nagar Panchayat

* Pachpadon, Chhatarpur Nagar Panchayat

These centres have helped boost public confidence in government healthcare by offering accessible, free primary care.

The new centres will provide free services, including BP and sugar testing, routine blood tests, treatment of common illnesses, and essential medicines. With doctors deployed at each facility, residents will not need to travel to CHCs or private clinics for basic care.

Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar Srivastava said, “The central government has approved four new Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, two in Medininagar, one in Hussainabad, and one in Hariharganj. Once functional, these centres will make quality healthcare easily accessible to people living in urban local body areas.”
