Mpox In India: India has reported the first case of monkeypox, increasing the concerns of elevated infection risk. A young male patient who had recently returned from a country with ongoing mpox has been identified as a suspected case of the mpox virus, the Union Health Ministry said.  Mpox presents symptoms such as fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes. Therefore, effectively safeguarding yourself and others from mpox involves understanding its transmission and implementing vigilant precautions.

According to WHO, the virus can spread through direct contact with infected people, animals or contaminated surfaces, making awareness and careful prevention crucial. Adopting essential safety measures can greatly lower the risk of Mpox infection and transmission. Here are 5 important precautions that you must take to minimise your risk of infection.

Precautions To Reduce Risk Of Mpox

Maintain Proper Hygiene

Frequent handwashing with soap and water, especially after touching potentially contaminated items or animals is essential. Refrain from touching your face, particularly the eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid Close Contact With Infected People

Close contact with infected people or their bodily fluids can spread the mpox virus. Avoid direct interaction with anyone displaying symptoms like fever, rash or swollen lymph nodes. In crowded areas where there may be a greater chance of transmission, practise caution.
