Ajit Pawar Death News: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed in the plane crash during landing in Baramati on Wednesday morning. He headed from Mumbai to Pune's Baramati to participate in the Panchayat election campaigns.
DGCA Issues Statement
The aviation regulatory body, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the death of the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and three others. According to the DGCA, one PSO (Personal Security Officer), one attendant and two crew members were onboard.
"Aircraft crash landed at Baramati. Sh. Ajit Pawar, Dy. CM, Maharashtra was onboard along with 2 more personnel (1 PSO and 1 attendant) and 2 crew (PIC+FO) members. As per initial information, no person on board has survived the crash," the statement read.
PM Modi Expresses Condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Pawar, saying the NCP leader had a strong grassroots connection. "Shri Ajit Pawar Ji was a leader of the people, having a strong grassroots level connect. He was widely respected as a hardworking personality at the forefront of serving the people of Maharashtra. His understanding of administrative matters and passion for empowering the poor and downtrodden were also noteworthy. His untimely demise is very shocking and saddening. Condolences to his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti," he wrote.
The civicl aviation regulatory body said it was a Learjet 45 type aircraft.
