Maharashtra Civic Polls: The Maharashtra Municipal elections have concluded, and the reservation status of mayoral posts across all 29 municipal corporations will be finalised on Friday. The state Urban Development Department will conduct a lottery at 11 am to decide which cities will have mayoral positions reserved for the General, OBC, SC/ST categories, as well as for women.
Once this process is complete, it will become clear which city will have a mayor from which caste and class. Following this, the new mayors of all 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra will be elected through a vote by councillors in the municipal council.
Lottery Will Be Drawn Today
It should be noted that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is in charge of the state's Urban Development Department. Therefore, the Urban Development Department will conduct a lottery system to reserve mayoral positions. The Urban Development Department will conduct a reservation lottery today for mayoral positions in Maharashtra's 29 municipal corporations.
According to the schedule set by the Urban Development Department, the lottery for the 29 municipal corporations will be held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal. The draw of the lottery will determine which mayors, male or female, will be selected for the 29 cities, including the BMC and Pune.

Mayor On Rotational Basis
Reservation for the mayor will be done on a rotational basis. In Maharashtra, the mayoral position is reserved for the general category, Scheduled Castes, OBCs, and women on a rotational basis. The last mayoral position in the BMC was reserved for the general category. Therefore, the general category will not be included in the lottery this time. Under this rotation, the class and category of the previous mayor in all cities will not be included in this lottery system.
