Mumbai BMC Election Results: Following the victory of the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Mumbai is poised to elect a new mayor by the end of this month, bringing an end to the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction)’s long-standing dominance over the nation’s wealthiest civic body.
The Maharashtra Urban Development Department is set to conduct a lottery next week to determine the reservation category for the mayoral position. The election for the mayor will take place ten days after the reservation process is finalised. Based on this schedule, Mumbai is expected to have a new mayor by the end of January.
Mumbai BMC Election Results: How Mayor is Elected?
The process begins with the Urban Development Department using a lottery to decide the reservation category for the mayor’s post, which could be general, women, or for backward classes. After the category is announced, eligible candidates can file their nominations.
The election itself will be held in a special session of the elected corporators of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The candidate who receives a majority more than half of the total seats in the House is declared the winner.

In cases where no single party holds a clear majority, the role of alliances becomes crucial. According to News18 citing sources reported that with the current political dynamics and BMC poll results, the possibility of defections or realignments during the mayoral election cannot be ruled out.
Maharashtra Civic Polls Results: Saffron Surge In Civic Polls As BJP Clinches 1,425 Seats
The BJP won 1,425 out of 2,869 seats in the Maharashtra civic polls to emerge as the single largest party in more than a dozen municipal corporations, including Mumbai and Pune, breaching the bastions of the Thackerays and Pawars.
The saffron party won 89 seats in the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ending the Thackeray family's three-decade-old dominance in the cash-rich civic body.
Its ally, Shiv Sena, bagged 29 seats, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) managed 65, and MNS got 6 seats. The Congress, which fought in alliance with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), bagged 24 seats, AIMIM 8, NCP 3, Samajwadi Party 2, and NCP (SP) got just one seat in the BMC.
