Thane Election Result 2026: After ending the nearly three-decade-long reign of the undivided Shiv Sena, the BJP emerged victorious in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on Friday. The party also dealt a blow to the NCP factions led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, securing a decisive win in the Pune civic body. In Thane, the home ground of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his Shiv Sena emerged victorious for the Mahayuti, securing 75 of the 131 seats, while its ally, the BJP, won 28 seats. However, Shinde lost a significant seat in Ward 13 to the Thackeray brothers' faction.
In Ward 13A, where Shinde's residence is located, voters elected a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate, replacing a former mayor from Shinde’s party.
Shahji Khuspe, from the Uddhav Thackeray-led camp, defeated Ashok Vaiti by over 600 votes in one of the sub-wards. Khuspe garnered 12,860 votes, while Vaiti received only 12,193. This victory handed the Shiv Sena (UBT) its only seat in Thane.
The remaining three sub-wards in Ward 13B, 13C, and 13D saw wins for Shinde’s party. Sena candidates Nirmala Kanse, Varsha Shelar, and Anil Bhor triumphed in these sub-wards, respectively.
The Thane Municipal Corporation elects a total of 165 corporators from 41 wards, with multiple corporators representing each ward.
The BJP won 1,425 out of 2,869 seats in the Maharashtra civic polls to emerge as the single largest party in more than a dozen municipal corporations, including Mumbai and Pune, breaching the bastions of the Thackerays and Pawars.

The saffron party won 89 seats in the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ending the Thackeray family's three-decade-old dominance in the cash-rich civic body.
Shiv Sena, its ally, secured 29 seats, while Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) won 65 seats. The MNS gained 6 seats. Congress, contesting in alliance with Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), secured 24 seats. AIMIM won 8 seats, the NCP took 3, Samajwadi Party won 2, and NCP (SP) bagged just one seat in the BMC.
