Mumbai BMC Polls 2026: As Mumbai gets ready for the 2026 civic elections, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has released detailed guidelines for voters ahead of polling on January 15. The instructions are aimed at ensuring peaceful voting and avoiding disruptions at polling stations across the city.

Key Rules For Voters On Poll Day

The civic body has urged voters to follow the rules strictly and cooperate with election staff for smooth conduct of polls. Officials said adequate arrangements have been made at all polling centres.

Mumbai BMC Polls 2026: Valid Identity Proofs Allowed

Voters must carry valid photo identification to cast their vote. Accepted documents include:

  • Voter ID card issued by the Election Commission of India

  • Aadhaar card

  • Passport

  • Driving licence

  • PAN card

  • MNREGA job card

  • Pension document with photograph

  • Photo identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs or government employees

Voters are also advised to carry their Voter Information Slip. If lost, a copy can be obtained at the polling station.

Mumbai BMC Polls 2026: What Is Not Allowed At Polling Stations

Certain items and activities are strictly banned near polling booths:

  • Mobile phones must be switched off inside polling stations

  • Lighters, flammable items and sharp objects are not allowed

  • Campaigning is prohibited within 100 metres of polling centres

  • Distribution of pamphlets or publicity material is banned on polling day

Officials have also warned people not to spread or believe rumours related to the election process.

Facilities And Emergency Support

To ensure accessibility, all polling stations will have:

  • Drinking water

  • Ramps and wheelchairs for senior citizens and persons with disabilities

Voters can seek help from polling staff if needed. In case of emergencies, helpline numbers 1916, 112 and 100 will remain active throughout the day.

The BMC election will decide who governs India’s financial capital for the next five years, making voter participation crucial.
