Mumbai Boat Accident: A total of 105 people are undergoing treatment at five different hospitals following the boat accident that claimed 13 lives on Wednesday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed on Thursday that out of the total injured, 90 are either discharged or are in stable condition in the Mumbai Boat accident.
According to the BMC, two of the total 105 are in critical condition, while a search and rescue operation is underway by various agencies including the Indian Navy.
The accident that took 13 lives on Wednesday, took place after the Indian Navy craft lost control while undertaking engine trials in Mumbai Harbour due to engine malfunction. The boat crashed into a passenger ferry which subsequently capsized.
Four of the six persons who were onboard the Navy boat that rammed into the ferry have lost their lives while one of them is critically injured. The ferry had approximately 110 passengers including 20 children, according to Indian Navy officials.
Meanwhile, the survivors of the accident on Thursday revealed that they were not provided with life jackets. "No one on the boat had life jackets. After the collision, we pulled several people out of the water and onto the boat. About 20 to 25 minutes later, the Navy rescued us, but by then, we had lost my aunt," Gautam Gupta, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur was quoted as saying by India Today.
Another passenger onboard claimed that the Navy’s speedboat was performing stunts. "The Navy’s speedboat was performing stunts. This raised our suspicions, so I started recording. Moments later, the boat collided with our ferry," said Shravan Kumar, a resident of Rajasthan’s Jalore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the incident and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased in the boat mishap in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that the government will provide all assistance to those affected, with rescue operations underway. He announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh would be provided from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives.
