Holashtak 2026: In North India, the eight days before Holi are called Holashtak. This period is considered inauspicious, as it is not a time to begin anything auspicious. It begins on the Ashtami tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Falgun and continues until the Purnima of Holika Dahan. During these eight days of Holashtak, certain things should be taken special care of. During this time, it is best to avoid auspicious events like weddings, housewarming ceremonies, tonsure ceremonies, or starting a new business. It is believed that due to unfavourable planetary positions, even prayers for domestic peace should not be performed. Also, refrain from buying new clothes, jewellery, or shoes, and from cutting your hair or nails. Most importantly, avoid touching any unfamiliar or strange objects placed at crossroads outside the house.

Things To Do During Holashtak

Throughout Holashtak, the easiest method to maintain your energy levels elevated is to connect with worship, meditation, and the chanting of mantras. Worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Narasimha, and chant the Vishnu Sahasranama. It is additionally said that donating food, clothes, or alms to the needy and taking care of animals are considered highly auspicious. Simultaneously, control your anger, avoid speaking negatively about others, and maintain celibacy to calm your mind and protect yourself from negativity.
