Khatu Shyam Falgun Mela 2026: Significance
Lord Krishna himself was pleased with the great sacrifice of Barbarik, who is revered worldwide as the “Sheesh Ke Daani” or the giver of head and gave him his name, which is why today devotees worship him as Baba Khatushyam. The biggest fair dedicated to Shyam Baba is held in the month of Phalgun (February-March), which lasts for about 12 days from Pratipada to Dwadashi. The most special day of this fair is 'Shukla Gyaras' (Ekadashi). Lakhs of devotees come here and dance to bhajans and kirtans, and many devotees stay till Holi and return home only after playing gulal with Baba.

The largest fair of Baba Khatushyam Ji lasts for about 12 days in the month of Phalgun. The Ekadashi day is the most special, when millions of devotees arrive to have Baba's darshan. Devotees rejoice in the all-night bhajan evenings, and the administration makes elaborate arrangements to handle the crowds.

There are several dharamshalas and renowned hotels like 'Lakhdatar' for accommodation. Devotees coming from far and wide begin their pilgrimage on foot from Ringas. Carrying Baba's 'Nishan' (flag) and coconuts in their hands, this procession, accompanied by band music is a sight to behold. The devotion is so intense that many devotees reach the temple. Fireworks are lit, and prasad is distributed throughout the route. The entire town of Khatu is filled with chants of Baba and gulal.
