The action-RPG game from Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed, is an Xbox exclusive that has made its way to the PS5 consoles. The game has made its way to the PlayStation after a year of its release on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Apart from that, an "anniversary update" is also introduced that comes with its new additions, like a New Game Plus, photo mode and more.
A new patch has also been introduced, the patch 2.0 update, for Avowed by Obsidian Entertainment, and with that came the PS5 version of the game as well. This new strategy that Microsoft has been employing since 2024 forms a part of its multiplatform push for its first-party games, through which these games can now be played on PS5 as well.
The previous game, one more game made for the PS5 consoles, was Forza Horizon 5, which was one of the highest-selling titles. Similarly, The Outer Worlds 2 also joined the same bandwagon and was playable on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S simultaneously in October of last year. This year as well, Microsoft will use the same strategy, and Xbox has affirmed that games by first-party developers like Fable, Forza Horizon 6, and Halo: Campaign Evolved will also make their way to Sony's console.
Avowed Patch 2.0
Avowed marked its anniversary with a fresh update rolled out on Tuesday, bringing along several long-requested additions and quality-of-life tweaks. The biggest highlight of the update is the introduction of three new playable species. Players can now begin their adventure as Dwarves, Orlans, or Aumaua, alongside the existing Human and Elf options.
These new species are available directly in the character creator at the start of the game. The update also adds a mirror at the camp, allowing players to change their character’s appearance and even switch species midway through their playthrough.
Along with this, the update introduces a New Game Plus mode. Once players finish the main story, they can replay the campaign while keeping all unlocked abilities, allocated attribute points, unique weapons and armour, as well as other collected gear and items.
Avowed was launched last year on PC and Xbox Series X/S on February 18, 2025, after the title saw a delay after its planned launch timeline. Previously this month, Obsidian's Chief told Bloomberg and expressed that the company was not able to meet sales expectations as far as Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are concerned.
