Last year Google unveiled Android XR OS, which is tailor-made for extended reality hardware. Now, leaked screenshots have appeared online ahead of schedule, offering a glance at its UI and design philosophy. The next-gen OS apparently sports a clean, minimal interface designed for spatial (or mixed) computing. Android XR will purportedly work to drive the next generation in mixed reality and augmented reality hardware, which should begin with Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset.
Android XR OS First Look: What the Leak Reveals
According to a report by 9to5Mac, leaked screenshots indicate that Android XR incorporates floating app windows and rounded tiles, as well as a streamlined navigation menu with the goal of eliminating on-display noise. The home screen is said to feature a focus around the central app grid, possibly with larger icons that are more suited towards use in 3D space.

Key system indicators such as battery status, connectivity, and time are placed subtly to provide essential information without overwhelming the user’s field of view.
Glimmer Design Language and Material You Influence
The OS behind the Android XR is said to be a design language known as Glimmer. This will add some nice lowlights and highlights in interface elements. Buttons, tiles and panels have a soft reflective shimmer that elastically responds to position and orientation. It follows the overall new design direction of Material You, Google’s rebranded design philosophy, featuring rounded corners, smooth edges, soft gradients and depth-based shadows.
Panels and windows can reportedly float independently and be resized or repositioned anywhere within the user’s view.
Strong AI Integration and App Support
A major highlight of the leaked interface is its strong focus on artificial intelligence. The OS is expected to deeply integrate Google’s AI assistant, enabling contextual suggestions and voice-based controls. Users may also access an AI overlay panel for real-time assistance, content summaries, and query responses without switching apps.
Android XR is also compatible with Google apps such as Photos, Google TV, and YouTube.
Samsung Galaxy XR Headset Details
Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset is the first device powered by Android XR OS. Launched in October 2025, it is priced at $1,799 (roughly Rs. 1,58,000) in the US for the single 16GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. In South Korea, the same configuration costs KRW 2,690,000 (about Rs. 1,65,000). Availability is currently limited to select markets.
