Huawei has introduced the Pura X Max in China, and this one feels less like an experiment and more like a statement. Launched alongside the Pura 90 series and new wearables, the foldable is clearly aiming to balance a large-screen experience with proper flagship performance.
At first glance, the Pura X Max is all about that dual-display setup. You get a 7.7-inch foldable LTPO OLED panel on the inside with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and peak brightness going up to 3,000 nits. It’s designed to handle everything from multitasking to media without feeling like a compromise. On the outside, there’s a 5.4-inch cover display, which should be more than enough for quick tasks when you don’t want to unfold the device every time.

Under the hood, Huawei is using its in-house Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. The company claims noticeable gains over the previous generation, especially on the AI side, which suggests smoother performance in day-to-day use as well as heavier tasks. Paired with up to 16GB of RAM and storage going all the way up to 1TB, this is clearly built to sit in the ultra-premium segment.
The camera setup also leans into that flagship positioning. There’s a 50-megapixel primary sensor, backed by a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens that supports up to 100x digital zoom, along with a 12.5-megapixel ultrawide camera. For selfies and video calls, Huawei has added 8-megapixel cameras on both the inner display and the cover screen, so you’re covered regardless of how you’re using the phone.
Battery life often becomes a concern with foldables, but Huawei seems to be addressing that with a 5,300mAh battery. It supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, which should make topping up quick enough even with heavy use.
There’s also a focus on durability this time. The Pura X Max comes with IP58 and IP59 ratings, something that’s still not very common in foldables. That adds a bit more confidence for everyday use, especially considering how delicate these devices can feel.
On the software side, the phone runs HarmonyOS 6.1 and supports a full range of connectivity options, including 5G, Bluetooth 6, dual-band Wi-Fi, and multiple GNSS systems like NavIC, which is useful in markets like India.
Pricing starts at CNY 10,999 for the base variant and goes up to CNY 13,999 for the top-end model with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. It’s available in a mix of bold and subtle colours, including Interstellar Blue, Olive Gold, Phantom Black, Vibrant Orange, and Zero Degree White.
The Pura X Max doesn’t feel like it’s trying to just keep up with other foldables. Instead, it looks like Huawei is pushing for a device that can actually replace a traditional flagship, without making you think twice about performance, cameras, or battery.
