Instagram New Reels TV Launch: Instagram is officially stepping out of the phone and onto the biggest screen in the house. Meta, in partnership with Amazon, has launched a dedicated Instagram app designed specifically for televisions, marking the platform’s first serious move into a TV-first experience. Called Instagram for TV, the app is now rolling out on select Amazon Fire TV devices in the US.
The idea is simple and very on-brand for where content consumption is heading. Instagram for TV focuses entirely on Reels, bringing short-form vertical videos to large living room screens. Until now, Instagram has largely stayed confined to smartphones and desktops. This launch signals a clear shift in how Meta wants Reels to be watched, not just solo on a phone, but casually, socially and passively, much like traditional TV content.
Instead of feeds packed with photos, Stories and DMs, the TV app strips things down to just Reels. Users can sit back and scroll through short videos using the Fire TV remote, making it easier for families or groups to watch content together. Amazon says the integration fits neatly into Fire TV’s goal of helping users access entertainment faster, while Meta benefits from placing Instagram directly into everyday TV viewing habits.
Setting up Instagram for TV is straightforward. After downloading the app from the Amazon Appstore, users need to sign in to continue. The app supports up to five accounts on a single device, with each account receiving personalised recommendations based on viewing behaviour. For users who prefer not to link their main Instagram profile, there is also an option to create a separate account meant only for TV viewing.
Inside the app, users can search for creators, browse profiles and explore topics of interest. Reels are organised into channels, and recommendations closely mirror what users would see on the mobile app. Viewers can like videos and read comments directly on the TV screen, keeping engagement intact even without a phone in hand.
Instagram for TV is not a revival of IGTV. Instagram’s earlier long-form video experiment was shut down in 2022 after failing to gain traction. This new app takes the opposite approach, betting entirely on short-form content that thrives on quick discovery and endless scrolling.
The move also puts Instagram in more direct competition with YouTube, which has dominated TV screens for years with its dedicated apps and creator ecosystem. By bringing Reels to televisions, Instagram is clearly chasing more living-room watch time.

Users will need to download the app manually from Amazon’s Appstore to get started.
