iQOO has finally put a date on the launch of its next flagship smartphone. The iQOO 16 will be unveiled in China on September 29, with the company also confirming three colour options for the phone. The launch comes after iQOO and Samsung jointly revealed details about the display that will be used on the upcoming handset.
The iQOO 16 is confirmed to feature Samsung's new OLED panel with the M16 luminescent material. The phone will also get a redesigned rear camera setup, including a square-shaped module and three cameras. iQOO has teased camera improvements over the previous model, although it has not shared the complete specifications yet.

iQOO 16 Launch Date And Colour Options
iQOO announced on Weibo on Tuesday that it will launch the iQOO 16 in China on September 29. The event will start at 7:00 pm local time, or 4:30 pm IST.
The company has also shown off three finishes for the smartphone. These are called Chasing Light, Legendary and Racing Track, based on their translated Chinese names.
Chasing Light has a silver base with red and blue shades across the rear panel, along with a laser holographic effect. The Legendary version gets a white finish and uses magnetron sputtering electroplating technology with a 670nm-thick electroplating film.
The Racing Track finish is a little different. iQOO says its purple colour has been inspired by the paint used on F1 cars.
iQOO 16 Display Features
The display is expected to be one of the biggest talking points of the iQOO 16. The company has already confirmed that the phone will have a 2K-resolution screen with support for a refresh rate of up to 165Hz. iQOO says this makes it the world's first smartphone with this particular combination.
The panel comes from Samsung and uses its new M16 luminescent material. It will also use Samsung's second-generation LEAD technology, called LEAD 2.0. The technology is designed around lower power consumption, higher brightness and a slimmer, lighter display design.
On paper, the numbers are impressive. The screen is rated for up to 2,800 nits of global peak brightness and up to 10,000 nits of local peak brightness. It will also support up to 3,300Hz PWM dimming.
Samsung's panel has additionally received TÜV Rheinland certifications for Global Eye Protection and Unpolarized Light.
iQOO 16 Gets A New Camera Design
The camera setup is getting a noticeable design change this time around. The iQOO 16 will have a square-shaped rear camera module housing three cameras.
iQOO has described part of the design as a "robotic arm", based on the translated Chinese wording, which connects the camera lenses visually. The company has also promised camera upgrades over the previous-generation iQOO flagship.
For now, iQOO has not revealed the full camera specifications. With the China launch scheduled for September 29, the company is likely to share more details about the cameras and other hardware as the event gets closer.
