Microsoft has introduced the new Surface Laptop Ultra, calling it the most powerful Surface laptop the company has ever built. Developed in partnership with Nvidia, the premium machine is designed for creators, developers, AI researchers, and professionals who work with heavy computing tasks.
The Surface Laptop Ultra features a 15-inch mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen display with up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness. Microsoft says it is the brightest display ever used on a Surface device. The panel offers a pixel density of 262ppi and is aimed at users who need accurate colour reproduction for creative and professional workloads.
Powering the laptop is Nvidia’s latest Blackwell RTX GPU architecture. Microsoft says this is the first Surface device to offer full CUDA support, allowing users to take advantage of Nvidia’s GPU acceleration capabilities for demanding workflows. According to the company, the laptop can deliver up to 1 petaflop of AI computing performance and is capable of running local AI models with up to 120 billion parameters.
The Surface Laptop Ultra can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory. The system is designed to dynamically distribute resources between the CPU and GPU based on workload requirements. Microsoft also says the hardware has been optimised for Nvidia RTX Spark workloads and upcoming Windows AI experiences.
Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform combines the Blackwell RTX GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, fifth-generation Tensor cores, and a 20-core Nvidia Grace CPU to handle advanced AI and graphics workloads.
To maintain performance during intensive tasks, Microsoft has equipped the Surface Laptop Ultra with an upgraded thermal system that reportedly offers up to 2.5 times the thermal capacity of the 15-inch Surface Laptop (7th Edition).
In terms of connectivity, the laptop includes HDMI, USB Type-C, USB Type-A, an SD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also features Microsoft’s largest haptic touchpad yet and supports Windows Hello facial recognition.

Microsoft says the laptop has also been designed with repairability in mind, offering internal wayfinding and replaceable parts that users can purchase separately.
The Surface Laptop Ultra will be available later this year in Platinum and Nightfall colour options. Pricing and market availability details are yet to be announced.
