Noida News: A 23-year-old delivery agent was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly raped a woman customer at a high-rise apartment in Greater Noida on Friday. The accused was identified as Sumit Singh.
The 19-year-old victim had reportedly ordered milk and eggs off a mobile app on Friday morning and was home alone. The accused, who came for delivery, realised that the woman was alone and barged into the house. He then raped the woman and fled the spot subsequently
The woman filed a complaint on the same day, following which five teams were immediately assigned to probe the case. The accused was finally found in Khairpur in Greater Noida and was arrested.
Upon reaching Sector 3, Sumit snatched a pistol from one of the constables and ran away. Reinforcements and SWAR teams were immediately deployed to probe the area in order to catch Sumit. During the combing operation, Sumit opened fire at them. In retaliation, the police fired back and Sumit was shot in the leg. He was then arrested and sent to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
“The accused was sent to the hospital for treatment. The elder brother of the accused is a history-sheeter. The accused has been jailed in the past for selling illegal liquor. His criminal history is being ascertained,” the Indian Express cited Hirdesh Katheriya, ADCP, Central Noida as saying.
