A 40-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl during a cultural event on Dussehra in the Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh. The incident allegedly occurred at around 2 AM in a village under the jurisdiction of Kawardha City Kotwali police station. The child, accompanied by her grandfather to witness the cultural program, was reportedly enticed by the accused, Durgesh Patel, to a nearby residence where the sexual assault took place.

According to the complaint filed by the child's grandfather, he left briefly to get water for his thirsty granddaughter, only to return and discover her missing. He later heard her cries for help from the nearby house. The grandfather rushed to the house and was shocked to find his granddaughter in the custody of the accused, Durgesh, who fled the scene upon being apprehended.

Durgesh Patel has been arrested, and initial investigations indicate he sexually assaulted the minor. A case has been registered against him under Section 376 AB of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape on a girl under 12 years of age, along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police continue to gather additional evidence as the investigation progresses.
