The long-pending demand for a four-lane bridge over the Harnandi river has received a major boost, with the Housing Development Commissioner granting in-principle approval for the project. The decision was taken during a meeting held on Wednesday. A detailed proposal will now be placed before the board in its meeting scheduled later this month.
The proposed 200-metre-long bridge will connect Siddharth Vihar with Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, and will be constructed about 50 metres ahead of the Hindon Barrage, running parallel to it. At present, a single-lane bridge at the barrage leads to frequent traffic congestion, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Once completed, the four-lane bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic movement and benefit hundreds of thousands of residents of Siddharth Vihar, Pratap Vihar, and the Trans Hindon area. The new connectivity will also improve travel between Vasundhara, Indirapuram, and adjoining localities.
As part of the project, a slip road will be constructed near the proposed AIIMS satellite centre in Vasundhara Sector 7. This slip road will connect the area directly to the elevated road, providing seamless entry and exit.
Currently, commuters travelling from UP Gate via the elevated road to Vasundhara, Siddharth Vihar, and Pratap Vihar are forced to take long detours via Rajnagar Extension. After the construction of the slip road, vehicles coming from Delhi will be able to exit directly into Vasundhara, avoiding the lengthy diversion. From there, the new four-lane bridge over the Harnandi will provide direct access to Siddharth Vihar and Pratap Vihar, ensuring smoother and faster travel.
