Health department officials have geared up for the Kartik Purnima Ganga Mela, a massive annual fair held in the Khadar region of Garhmukteshwar that attracts up to 3,000,000 devotees from states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.
To ensure 24-hour medical care for attendees, who often fall ill from the cold or sustain injuries, the health department will establish five temporary hospitals at the fair, with a combined total of 28 beds. These hospitals will be operational from October 30.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Sunil Kumar Tyagi stated that the hospitals are being set up in the Meerut, Ganga Ghat, Brajghat, and Sadar sectors. They will be staffed with doctors, pharmacists, female doctors, and staff nurses, who have already been assigned their duties. The facilities will run regular Outpatient Departments (OPDs) and provide services such as ECGs.
The CMO also noted that officials are determined to avoid any negligence and are preparing to prevent untoward incidents. The temporary hospitals will be stocked with anti-snake venom injections, ensuring that snakebite patients can receive immediate treatment on-site without delay.

For emergencies, 12 government and private ambulances will be on standby at the fair site at all times. Dr Tyagi said that if a devotee is seriously injured or suffers from a serious illness, an ambulance will be dispatched to the scene immediately to transport the patient to the Garhmukteshwar Community Health Centre (CHC) or the district hospital.
