In a unique initiative to engage students and promote understanding of police work, female school and college students took charge as Station House Officers (SHOs) at seven police stations in the Trans-Hindon area, Ghaziabad, on Thursday. The students assumed command at 10 am, handling complaints, inspecting police stations, conducting area patrols, and even issuing vehicle challans.

During their five-hour tenure, students not only attended to complainants but also listened to the problems faced by police personnel. Some students recommended approving leave applications, while others wrote letters to the DCP addressing duty timings and housing concerns.

Nisha, a Year 12 student at Tila Mod police station, suggested organising police duties in shifts and requested the resolution of housing issues. Students also registered complaints, including an FIR in a dowry harassment case, and counselled victims of domestic violence and cybercrime.

The initiative involved:

  • Sahibabad Police Station: Year 10 student Sapna Tomar
  • Link Road Police Station: Year 10 student Pihu Agarwal
  • Tila Mod Police Station: Year 12 student Nisha
  • Shalimar Garden Police Station: Year 12 student Anushka
  • Indirapuram Police Station: Year 11 student Vidushi
  • Khoda Police Station: CA student Kritika Sharma
  • Kaushambi Police Station: Year 11 student Trisha

Later, the DCP Trans-Hindon met the students to hear about their experiences and honoured them with mementoes. Many students who initially planned careers in other fields expressed a newfound interest in joining the police service.

On the same day, students also took charge of four police stations in Loni:

  • Loni Border Police Station: Year 12 student Purvi Rathi
  • Tronica City Police Station: Year 12 student Gayatri Singh
  • Loni Police Station: Student Jyoti Vishwas
  • Ankur Vihar Police Station: Student Mahi Bhardwaj

The programme provided students with practical insights into police work while fostering a stronger bond between the police and the community.
