Following the suspension of the Ganges water supply in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, residents of the Trans-Hindon area are facing acute drinking water shortages. The Municipal Corporation is providing water from its own resources, but many households are receiving water only once a day, forcing residents to rely on bottled water.
Yogesh Prakash, a resident of Vaishali, said the municipal water supply in the morning lasts just 10-15 minutes, making it difficult even to fill water tanks. Similarly, Ritesh Jain of Kaushambi highlighted that residents of housing societies are struggling, as water is not reaching the upper floors of buildings. In Indirapuram, residents have also complained about low pressure in the groundwater supply.
The Ganges water supply is expected to remain suspended for around 20 days in areas including Vaishali, Kaushambi, Indirapuram, and Delta colonies. Authorities have informed residents of the suspension in advance.
Brahmanand, Chief Engineer of Jal Nigam, explained that the suspension is due to desilting work on the Ganga Canal carried out by the Irrigation Department after the monsoon. He added that the Ganges water supply is expected to resume by Diwali.

KP Anand, General Manager of the Municipal Corporation’s Water Works department, said groundwater is being supplied to all areas, and additional water tankers will be dispatched to the most affected locations to ensure an uninterrupted water supply.
