In a gruesome incident in Belghat, a man murdered his wife, dug a six-foot-deep pit behind their house, and buried her body to destroy the evidence. The crime came to light four days later when the police, alerted by the accused's father, recovered the body and arrested the husband.
Motive And Background
The accused, Arjun, a resident of Beili Kund, had a love marriage two years ago with 25-year-old Khushboo, from Madariya in Barhalganj. The couple did not have children. Arjun worked as a laborer in Ludhiana and had returned home just 15 days prior to the incident. According to the police, the couple had frequent disputes as Arjun suspected that his wife was close to another person. During one such argument, the situation escalated, and Arjun strangled Khushboo to death.
The Crime And Cover-Up
After committing the murder, Arjun executed a plan to dispose of the body while his family was unaware.
The Digging: At around 11 pm, Arjun took a spade and began digging behind the house. He dug continuously for three hours until 2 am, creating a pit approximately six feet deep.
Burial: He placed Khushboo’s body in the pit, covered it with soil, and scattered weeds and dry grass on top to camouflage the spot.
Family Unaware: At the time of the incident, Arjun's father, Shyam Narayan, was away in Uruwa for labor work. His mother and younger brother were asleep in their rooms and did not hear any noise.
The Unravelling Of The Plot For Four Days
Following the murder, Arjun maintained a normal demeanor. whenever his parents asked about Khushboo's whereabouts, he claimed she had gotten angry and returned to her parental home. However, rumors of her sudden disappearance began to spread in the village. Neighbors expressed fears that something untoward had happened and advised Shyam Narayan to inform the police. Although Shyam Narayan had become suspicious of his son, he stated he never imagined Arjun could take such a drastic step. Acting on the advice of neighbors, he filed a complaint at the police station.

Police Action And Confession
Upon receiving the information, the Belghat police arrived at the scene. Initially, Arjun was evasive during questioning. However, under intense interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Police excavated the spot identified by the accused and recovered the body from a depth of six feet. Khushboo's brother and other maternal relatives arrived at the station upon hearing the news.

SP Dinesh Kumar Puri confirmed that a murder case has been registered against Arjun based on the written complaint filed by his father, Shyam Narayan. The accused is currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
