Gorakhpur: MMMUT Eyes NIRF Ranking In Five Categories Amid National Maan-Dhan Registration Drive

The Ministry of Labour has launched a special registration drive for unorganised workers and small traders. Under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan and Laghu Vyapari Maan-dhan schemes, eligible beneficiaries will receive a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after the age of 60.

Gorakhpur: MMMUT Eyes NIRF Ranking In Five Categories Amid National Maan-Dhan Registration Drive

To provide social security to workers in the unorganised sector and small traders, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has launched a nationwide special registration drive. Under this initiative, eligible workers and traders will be registered for the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Laghu Vyapari Maan-dhan Yojana. 

The drive will be conducted in two phases. Registration in urban areas will take place from January 15 to February 15, and in rural areas from February 16 to March 15. Under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan Yojana, workers in the 18 to 40 age group whose monthly income is Rs 15,000 or less, and who are not taxpayers or members of the EPF, ESIC, or NPS, will be eligible.

This scheme includes rickshaw pullers, street vendors, domestic workers, mid-day meal staff, brick kiln labourers, construction workers, MGNREGA workers, agricultural labourers, workers associated with the handloom, bidi, and leather industries, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and other unorganised workers. 

Deputy Labour Commissioner Shakti Sen Maurya stated that under the Pradhan Mantri Laghu Vyapari Maan-dhan Yojana, small traders in the 18 to 40 age group with an annual turnover of less than Rs 1.5 crore will be eligible. This includes self-employed small traders such as shop owners, retail traders, mill owners, workshop operators, commission agents, small hotel and restaurant owners, and real estate agents. 

MMMUT, Gorakhpur, will apply for NIRF ranking in five categories; the university was in the top 100 in the overall category. Under both schemes, a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 will be provided after the age of 60 upon making a monthly contribution of between Rs 55 and Rs 200, depending on the age group.

In the event of the beneficiary's death, there is a provision for the spouse to receive a 50 per cent family pension. He stated that registration can be done through Common Service Centres (Jan Suvidha Kendras). 

Additionally, beneficiaries can also register online themselves by visiting the e-Shram/Maan-dhan portal. An Aadhaar card, bank account, mobile number, and nominee details will be required for registration.
