Following the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 4, the Transport Department has intensified its crackdown on polluting vehicles. Officials are currently monitoring approximately 125,000 restricted vehicles to ensure strict compliance with the anti-pollution directives.

According to department data, action has been taken against 232 vehicles between December 1 and Monday for operating in violation of the rules.

Strict Ban On BS-4 Vehicles

Under GRAP-4, which came into effect last Saturday, a strict ban has been imposed on all types of vehicles below the BS-6 category, including BS-4 heavy goods vehicles.

Exemptions: Officials clarified that BS-6 category vehicles in the district are fully exempt. Additionally, as per directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), lower-category vehicles used strictly for essential and emergency services are permitted to operate.

Surveillance: Five enforcement teams from the Transport Department are actively monitoring the district, with a specific focus on the Delhi borders adjacent to Noida. The department is also coordinating with the Traffic Police to ensure effective enforcement.

Financial Recovery And Enforcement Data

The Transport Department reported that from April 1, 2024, to date (Financial Year 2025-26), action has been taken against a total of 4,018 vehicles. These penalties were issued for various violations, including operating without valid pollution certificates and flouting GRAP restrictions.

While the total fines assessed amount to approximately Rs 4.01 crore, the department has successfully recovered approximately Rs 1.49 crore so far.

Nand Kumar, ARTO (Administration and Enforcement), confirmed the department's aggressive stance on pollution control.

"Continuous action is being taken against vehicles restricted under GRAP. The enforcement team is fully active in this regard. Action has been taken against dozens of vehicles and fines have also been imposed."
