In a tragic incident, a girl had to have one hand and her toes amputated after being severely burned by a high-tension line passing over a roof in Achheja Buzurg village, Greater Noida. Following a complaint from the victim's family, police have registered a case against officials of the electricity corporation eight months later and have begun an investigation into the incident.

The incident took place when the victim, 13-year-old Zara Khan, a resident of Delhi, had come to her maternal uncle Shaan Mohammed's house in Achheja Buzurg village on April 2 this year. She was standing on the roof of her maternal aunt's house next door when she was severely burned after coming into contact with the high-tension line passing over the roof.

She was immediately admitted to the hospital, where the doctors amputated her right hand and two toes from one foot to save her.

Mohammed had filed a written complaint with the police against officials of the electricity corporation. He alleged that they had repeatedly requested that the electricity corporation officials remove the high-tension line passing over the roof, but no action was taken.

The incident is alleged to have occurred due to the negligence of the department's officials. However, the power line was already in place. As the town's population increased, people built houses around it. A request had been made to the department to remove the power line and shift it to an outlying area.
