Greater Noida: New Rope Launcher Enables ATS To Scale Buildings, Cross Rivers During Emergencies
In an emergency, the Anti-Terrorism Squad will be able to cross a distance of 100 metres with a rope launcher.

To strengthen counter-terror capabilities, the Greater Noida Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been equipped with high-tech weapons and specialised gear, including a newly introduced long-range rope launcher. The device, showcased at the UP International Trade Show at India Expo Mart, has attracted widespread attention for its ability to cover 100 metres in a single launch.

The rope launcher, operated like a gun, allows three to four personnel to carry equipment while climbing multi-storey buildings or crossing rivers, a significant improvement over the previous model, which had a range of just 30-40 metres. The rope, made of nylon, can bear 300-350 kilograms at a time, making it suitable for rescue operations, counter-terror interventions, and emergency evacuations.

ATS Head Constable Pradeep Sharma demonstrated the device at the Expo, explaining that the launcher uses CO2 gas or compressed air to propel the rope toward an anchor point.

Once secured, the rope acts as a sturdy bridge for personnel to ascend or descend safely. The launcher itself weighs 10-11 kg, is easy to operate, and requires minimal maintenance.
