Efforts are in full swing to enhance the Anwarganj-Kannauj-Farrukhabad-Kasganj railway line for high-speed train operations in Kanpur. The final phase of track improvement is currently underway, focusing on correcting sharp curves to facilitate faster travel.

Railway officials from the Izzatnagar division are working on upgrading tracks between Anwarganj, Bilhaur, Kannauj, and Farrukhabad, ensuring smooth operations at railway crossings.

This development aims to initially achieve a speed of 110 km/h, with plans to further increase it to 160 km/h, similar to the Delhi-Howrah route. A survey conducted two years ago identified multiple sharp curves and bottlenecks affecting train speed. To resolve this, railway crossings were closed for repairs, and track adjustments were made.

Due to dense population and 18 railway crossings between Anwarganj and Mandhana, current train speeds are restricted to 30-40 km/h. To tackle this, the Railway Ministry has approved an elevated railway track for this stretch with an investment of Rs 995 crore. The tender and foundation stone for a new railway station, named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be laid by the end of April, followed by track construction.

The elevated railway track is being designed to accommodate a future double line, ensuring seamless expansion. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, significantly reducing travel time.

The upgraded railway infrastructure will also enhance connectivity to Delhi and Uttarakhand. A new railway line between Aligarh and Kasganj is planned, along with improved routes via Kasganj to Bareilly and Uttarakhand. This will enable high-speed trains like Shatabdi and Rajdhani to operate on this corridor, reducing travel time to Delhi.

Additionally, plans to introduce a Sleeper Vande Bharat Express from Prayagraj or Kanpur Central to Kathgodam will receive a boost. North Eastern Railway's PRO, Rajendra Singh, confirmed that track strengthening efforts are underway, and visible improvements will be seen soon.

Key Developments:

-55 passenger trains and 35 goods trains currently operate on the Anwarganj-Kasganj railway line.

-Survey initiated for two new trains from Anwarganj to Delhi.

-Elevated track project will streamline train operations and eliminate speed restrictions.

-Kanpur MP Ramesh Awasthi emphasised the importance of the upgrades for better regional connectivity.

The modernisation of this railway corridor is expected to greatly benefit passengers and freight operations, ensuring faster, smoother, and more efficient train travel in the near future.
