The Green Corridor being developed along the Gomti River, from IIM Road to Kisan Path, is nearing completion, paving the way for major urban development along the city’s lifeline. Officials said the 57-km corridor will be ready by December 15, transforming the stretch from G-20 Road to Kisan Path into a new urban zone, similar to the bustling areas near Nishatganj and Hanuman Setu.

Under the existing Lucknow Master Plan 2031, construction was prohibited within 200 metres of the old Gomti embankment. As a result, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) had rejected numerous applications for residential and commercial plans in this zone.

However, the government has now approved an amendment to the Master Plan, designating the Green Corridor as the new boundary line of the river. This will allow construction within 200 metres of the corridor across a roughly 10-km stretch between Kisan Path and Shaheed Path, including areas near Army land and Sultanpur Road. LDA will now be able to approve building plans, including high-rise projects.

The LDA had earlier identified 45 acres near the police headquarters along the Gomti for a housing project, but the proposal had stalled due to the 200-metre restriction. Officials said the housing scheme is now likely to be revived and may be placed before the LDA board meeting on December 5.

Principal Secretary (Housing and Urban Planning) P Guruprasad has formally notified the Green Corridor as the new river boundary under Section 13(2) of the Uttar Pradesh Town Planning and Development Act, 1973. LDA Chief Town Planner KK Gautam said that following the notification, all types of construction, residential, commercial and high-rise, can now be approved along the corridor.
