Noida Authority Proposes 500 E-Buses And New Elevated Road To Boost Jewar Airport Connectivity

The Authority will discuss the elevated road and the 500 e-bus project at the government level to improve connectivity for Noida International Airport. An NOC from the Irrigation Department is awaited for the construction of an elevated road on the Yamuna embankment. The plan to launch 500 electric buses in the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway areas, which is currently considered unfeasible, will also be discussed.

The Noida Authority is set to initiate high-level discussions with the Uttar Pradesh government regarding two critical infrastructure projects designed to enhance connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. As the nodal agency, officials will present the current status and challenges of the proposed Yamuna Pushta Elevated Road and the 500 E-Bus Project.

Following these discussions and subsequent government approval, the proposals will be placed before the board. However, the final decision rests with the state government.

Yamuna Pushta Elevated Road Project

This project aims to create a seamless corridor along the Yamuna embankment to decongest existing expressways.

The Route: The elevated road will start near the Sector-94 roundabout and extend to Sector-150. It will integrate with both the Yamuna Expressway and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

Design Change: While the initial plan envisaged a mix of a six-lane elevated and eight-lane on-ground road, the revised plan proposes constructing the entire corridor as an elevated road.

Current Hurdle: The project is currently awaiting a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, which owns the embankment land. No work can commence without this permission.

Execution Strategy: The Noida Authority board previously decided that the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPIDA) would execute the project, with the cost shared by the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Development Authorities.

Next Steps: Once the Irrigation Department issues the NOC, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be requested to undertake the construction.

The E-Bus Project

The ambitious plan to launch 500 electric buses across Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway area is currently stalled due to logistical and financial concerns.

The Proposal: The project, estimated at Rs 675 crore, originally planned for the simultaneous operation of 500 buses (300 for Noida, 100 for Greater Noida, and 100 for YIDA).

Feasibility Issues: The three authorities have flagged that launching 500 buses at once is impractical under current circumstances. Critical infrastructure—including bus depots, charging stations, route mapping, and the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for operations—is not yet in place

Counter-Proposal: The authorities are urging the government to implement the project in phases:

Phase 1: Introduce 250 buses to gauge the response and establish necessary infrastructure.

Objective: A phased approach would reduce the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) burden on the authorities and ensure better management.

Top officials will present these facts to the government to secure a realistic and actionable roadmap for both projects.
