Noida Airport Update: After massive delays, Tata Projects, which is building the Noida International Airport in Jewar, has promised to complete the construction by June 30, as per a report by The Times of India. The firm has said that it is planning to deploy an additional workforce of 2,000 and resources from another construction site to accelerate the work and meet the projected deadline.
On Wednesday, a high-level review meeting was chaired by Uttar Pradesh's chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh. During the meeting, Tata Capital presented a catch-up plan.
The officials of the company said that they are ready to deploy 2,000 additional workers from other projects to assist the 6,500 already working.
The officials added that the workforce dwindled recently as many workers went back to their villages for harvesting.
"We will augment the current workforce with workers from some of our other ongoing projects in the vicinity. We are trying everything possible to get the airport ready by June 30," TOI quoted an official.
Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) CEO Arun Vir Singh said that the construction of the terminal building has been steadily progressing, and the domestic passenger section is nearly complete.
Providing details about the construction, Singh said, "Work is underway on the roof of the upper floor for international passengers. Tata has committed to completing the remaining work over the next two months."
As per the officials, 90 per cent work has been completed. The construction of runways and airside areas is nearly complete. The passenger terminal building is 85 per cent completed.
The domestic terminal is largely incomplete, but the international terminal is 75 per cent complete. Reports say that the most lagging part is the water treatment plant and the sewage treatment plant. They are only 40-45 per cent complete as two contractors have abandoned it so far.
The construction firm is now searching for alternatives to complete it. Another high-level meeting will be held on May 10. The meeting will be crucial as a joint team of the Airports Authority of India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security will evaluate the readiness of the Jewar Airport.
