The cooking gas subsidy for over 4,50,000 Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries across 10 UP districts, served by the regional offices of Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, is at risk if they do not complete the KYC process for their connections by December. Beneficiaries who fail to complete KYC will receive their 8th and 9th cylinders without the Rs 300 subsidy.

Domestic gas consumers are also required to complete KYC, failing which their Rs 59.05 per cylinder subsidy may be suspended. Oil companies have intensified efforts to ensure all beneficiaries complete the KYC process.

The Gorakhpur regional office covers seven districts of the Gorakhpur-Basti division, along with Ambedkarnagar, Balrampur, and Azamgarh, where approximately 15 lakh Ujjwala beneficiaries reside. Under the scheme, women from below-poverty-line families are provided a free cooking gas connection along with a Rs 300 subsidy per cylinder for up to nine refills per year. Beneficiaries pay the full price for cylinders, and the subsidy is directly credited to their bank accounts.

Despite awareness campaigns, about 30 per cent of beneficiaries have not completed KYC. Beneficiaries can complete the process themselves through the QR code or the link: https://www.pmuy.gov.in/e-kyc.html, visit their agency operator’s showroom, or have the agency delivery person complete KYC at their home using facial biometrics. At the agency, facial or thumb biometrics will be used.

Deputy General Manager of Indian Oil, Ravi Kumar Chanderia, clarified that gas supply will not be stopped due to incomplete KYC, and beneficiaries who complete KYC by March 31 next year will receive the withheld subsidy. Beneficiaries who have already completed KYC once in a financial year will not need to do it again.
