The Uttar Pradesh Cow Service Commission is taking steps to ensure the well-being of 12.58 lakh cattle housed in 7,713 gaushalas across the state. A key initiative is ensuring sufficient green fodder, with plans to plant suitable trees like drumstick and Pakad within the gaushala premises.

The commission will also conduct a physical verification of the cattle and inspect the registers of all gaushalas. During a review of the Ayodhya division, the commission emphasised the need to accelerate the implementation of its decisions.

Chairman Shyam Bihari Gupta highlighted the importance of green fodder and promoting local processing units utilising cow urine and dung. The commission also plans to expand biogas plants and encourage farmers to engage in cattle rearing. Innovative farmers will be recognised as brand ambassadors.

Furthermore, the commission aims to involve local youth, women's self-help groups, and the public in organic and natural farming practices. Gaushalas will be developed into training centers to promote natural farming, bioenergy, and panchgavya products, offering training and employment opportunities to self-help groups. Division-level training programs on cow-based natural farming will also be organised.

Efforts will be made to reclaim grazing land from illegal encroachment and utilise it for fodder production. The commission will collaborate with the Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (IGFRI), Jhansi, for perennial and seasonal fodder production and training. To combat cattle smuggling in border districts, ADG and ASP-level officers will be appointed as nodal officers.
