The Uttar Pradesh government is fully committed and sensitive to providing relief to people affected by disasters such as floods, earthquakes, droughts, fires, cold waves, and human-wildlife conflict. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state's Relief Commissioner's office is making all possible efforts to reduce the impact of disasters and provide prompt assistance to victims. In this regard, a sum of Rs 710.12 crore has been allocated under the Disaster Relief Fund for the financial year 2025-26.

This sum was used to provide assistance to victims of various natural and man-made disasters. In addition, efforts have been made to make the state's disaster relief system more effective, resulting in Uttar Pradesh now emerging as a strong model state in the field of disaster management.

Expenditure Breakdown: Flood Rehabilitation And Natural Disasters

Of the Rs 710.12 crore released in the financial year 2025-26 for disaster mitigation, preparedness, effective relief distribution, and victim rehabilitation in the state, the largest portion, Rs 365.73 crore, was issued for the rescue of those affected by floods. This was spent specifically on the rehabilitation of people affected by floods from the Saryu, Ganga and Ghaghara rivers.

A sum of Rs 14.13 crore was released for compensation for losses due to cyclones and storms, Rs0.13 crore for damage from hailstorms, Rs 14.63 crore for compensation in fire incidents, and Rs 50.72 crore for protection against the cold wave. In this regard, the state government allocated approximately Rs 246.63 crore for other disasters. A sum of Rs 0.44 crore was released for the general category and Rs 17.71 crore for other relief efforts. This amount was spent on accelerating swift relief, rehabilitation, and rescue operations in the state's disaster-affected areas and on making the disaster relief system more effective.

Cold Wave Protection: Blankets, Bonfires And Night Shelters

The Relief Commissioner's office made extensive arrangements for protection during the cold season, leading to a significant reduction in fatalities from the cold wave this year. In this regard, the state government released Rs 45.51 crore for distributing blankets to destitute and helpless individuals and Rs 3.51 crore for lighting bonfires. Through this, arrangements were ensured for lighting bonfires at 27,027 locations across all districts of the state.

To date, 169,834 bonfires have been lit, and this work continues as required. Meanwhile, the district administration has distributed 589,689 blankets to the poor and destitute. Additionally, 1,242 night shelters have been established across the state, providing relief to more than 64,000 individuals so far. These arrangements proved to be a remarkable effort in saving the lives of destitute and helpless people during the cold wave.

Tech-Driven Assistance: Aapda Prahari App And 1070 Helpline

The state government's objective is to ensure that every person affected by a disaster receives prompt assistance and that their economic stability is secured along with the protection of their life. For this purpose, the Relief Commissioner's office also operates the Aapda Prahari app and the 1070 toll-free number, which ensure swift assistance and effective coordination for disaster victims.
