The education department in Uttar Pradesh is facing renewed scrutiny over the management of government schools following a viral video from Mahoba district. The footage, recorded in the Dhikwaha area of the Kabrai block, reveals a school cook mixing two half-liter packets of Amul milk into a large bucket of water. This diluted mixture was intended for the students' Mid-Day Meal.
Viral Video Exposes Mid-Day Meal Malpractice
The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of the school principal. According to government mandates, students are entitled to fresh, well-cooked meals and 200ml of pure local or packaged milk daily. However, the video suggests that 50 children were being served from just one liter of milk, compromising both nutritional standards and student health.
Principal Caught Sleeping On Duty
The video further highlights administrative negligence, showing the principal, identified as Monika Soni, asleep on the premises. The footage, filmed and uploaded by a local resident, sparked immediate outrage and led to an investigation by the education department.

Official Action
Following the social media backlash, the Mahoba Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) took decisive action by suspending Principal Monika Soni with immediate effect. As reported by The Hindustan Times, the suspension order emphasised that while the government directs each child to receive 200ml of quality milk, the school failed to meet these established standards. The suspension letter was also shared by the Basic Education Minister, Sandeep Singh.
